Sergei Denisovich Yezhov

Yezhov belongs to the Ministyerstvo Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti (MGB), the precursor to the KGB. He was detailed to the RPA as a special assignment.

He's a lanky, skinny WW2 vet who tows the Party Line when he's got the uniform on, and is the typical bitchy drunk after hours.

Draw

"I am a member of the MGB. The MGB sees this "paranormal" group as an opportunity to keep a foot in things and fuck with the other occupying powers, who are all ganging up on Russia. They went down the list of people who fought in Europe in WW2 and can speak Euro languages: 140 left. Then they took out the list of really well connected people (sons, nephews, neighbors of high communist officials: 70 left. Then, for some reason known only to them, they looked for people who fought in or about Teltow in the American sector in the war: 10 left. Then they further narrowed it down to people who were in Kassel for more than a year: 3.

"They would have gone with Beria, but he's an alcoholic with chronic muscle pain. They would have done with Menzhinsky, but he shot himself in the head with his service pistol the week before they needed to confirm the decision. They then decided that it would be me who gets to serve the glorious committee for state security and mother Russia. Papers were drafted, I was notified, and was on a train in two days. Returning to Teltow, I find a lot of familiar sights: There's the outine of the sandbags where we were pinned down by German gunfire. There's the crumbling school building where me and two Corporals stayed in the cold for two weeks with barely any food, sniping at passing German officers ahead of Zhukhov's shock armies. Over there is where my Sergent died against the destroyed statue, where I held his bowels in for him and gave him a last sip of vodka before he died."

Hidden agendas

National

Bring all secrets back to the KGB/MGB. Keep an eye on the shiftee other Western powers so that they don't have a leg up on Russia. Throw in a monkeywrench if needed to kill strong cooperation.

Personal

I have an older brother, Viktor, who defected. I'm trying to find him without alerting the MGB. Also: Deep down, I want to defect, too.

Trust

Nicholas Bartlett

Trust: 2

Why:

  • He appears brave, but I can see he's very fatalistic. I can relate to that. He's American. I shouldn't trust him... and yet he might be beneficial if I need to defect. For now I'll put my faith in him. He's a good agent, if a little too Cowboy-ish. I respect his judgment and instinct.

Louis Trepper

Trust: 2

Why:

  • Sympathetic to his communist tendencies. He's not American, so I can relax a little more around him. He's smart and reasonable, and thus he understands logic. He's smart and reasonable, and thus easier to manipulate.
